The last, and the most heavy-duty of ALCO 6-axle centuries, the C636 looked like a beast, and most likely operated like one, but didn’t exactly sell very well, with only a total of 34 built for the US, and 29 for the Australians.

One of many railroads to buy ALCO’s short-lived C636 was the Spokane, Portland & Seattle, which only lasted about three years on the SP&S before the railroad was eventually merged into the Burlington Northern, the C636s lasted another decade on the BN, before all being retired in the 1980s, with some examples making it to Chrome Crankshaft, none survive in modern day.
