Huh, this CV RS-11 looks slightly different compared to the rest of the fleet, was this acquired secondhand?

Yes it was, and here’s how it went…

In 1979, two years after being transferred to the Central Vermont, the original #3609 had a pretty nasty accident, which had it damaged beyond repair, and was parted out and eventually scrapped.

The CV ended up acquired a Norfolk & Western RS-11 that was going to be retired, specifically RS-11 #367, and had it repainted and renumbered to #3609 to match the others, although spec wise, you can tell that this was a N&W RS-11 on the inside.

By 1985, it was retired alongside the genuine CV RS-11s, and while many of them would be scrapped, the fake #3609 was one of four to survive into modern day, but not under the Delaware Lackawanna, but under the Maine Coast Railroad.

It received a Maine Central Esque Livery, and would be renumbered back to its original N&W number, #367, and would last like this until it was sold off to the Chattahoochee Bay Railroad, and later on, the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad as a part of their Shenandoah Valley Railroad, which it still operates to this very day.
