The Burlington Northern was one of the many railroads that kept their E-units (that were previously inherited by the CB&Q) in service way longer than they should’ve lasted, but nonetheless, several examples are depicted here in this pack, some normal looking, and some just being oddballs.

 

They mostly served passenger and commuter trains, but some of them would end up in freight service, which wasn’t exactly ideal for an E-unit, but good for them I guess.

 

BN would retire a decent amount of them in the 70s, but some would eventually be rebuilt by M-K into the E9ams, which lasted in commuter service till about 1992, where many of them would either be preserved, sold off to other companies, abandoned, or scrapped.
