CN HR616 Pack

(Models made by ThatMLWFan, with bogies from Jan Henning Gettkant)

This model has been in the works since December 2024, I thank all of those that helped make this model possible.

The Bombardier HR616 has quite an interesting history, to say the least, with 20 built in 1982-83, these engines were the first of the Draper-Tapers, and the last newly built locomotives to have ALCO’s 251 engine.

For a while, engines #2100-2103 were sent back to Bombardier as Demonstrators #7001-7004 for testing on the Canadian Pacific in 1983, they would return to CN in 1984.

Ironically, for an engine known as “Highly Reliable”, they weren’t exactly Highly Reliable, weren’t they?

HR616 #2119 is also quite notable, as it was the only member of its class to have Bombardier’s Desktop control stand.

These engines lasted till about 1997-98, when they would be retired and scrapped…or were they?

Some examples ended up at the National Railway Equipment Company in Silvis, IL, where they remained until about 2017, when they would be scrapped, rendering the HR616, extinct.
