Started in 1970, Santa Fe operated a total of 61 GP38s from General Motors Electro-Motive Division. During the 80s they were rebuilt into GP38us and renumbered from the 3500 to the 2300 series. At least one unit, 2312, was repainted into the Southern Pacific-Santa Fe “Kodachrome” merger scheme. Most of the class remained in service with BNSF following Santa Fe’s merger with Burlington Northern.

Four variants are included. There are both bookends and Yellowbonnet scheme GP38s, each with random numbers. The Yellowbonnet GP38s has random numbers and the Kodachrome has a fixed number as it is a one-off variant.
